Lockhouse Distillery 41 Columbia St. Buffalo, NY Phone: Again, not looking for a debate; I've been to plenty of bars around here and I like them fine. A mixer has a different purpose and atmosphere than a bar crowd, and it takes a lot of the early confusion and awkwardness out of the situation because everyone there is looking to date. If that works for you, but I feel the only difference in those events is that you know everyone is single and you meet the "single" version of that person, not necessarily the real person, sort of like a job interview.
It's definitely a matter of preference; these events cater to the type of people who like to take the early guesswork out of the game; and for some, that's part of the fun. I'd never join a club that would have me as a member? I'd never date a guy that I met at a singles mixer. Of course I'd never be at a singles mixer to find out Not in my 20s or 30s for sure. I know plenty of people who have met their wives at bars. Yes, some places can be loud however, if you go to the correct bars, chances are, you'll find individuals of similar age, also given immediate proximity to some environments you'll find young professionals or students buffalo proper vs mcgarrets.

You may be surprised to learn, not everyone is out looking to hook up, people commonly just meet, converse and have a good time making new acquaintances. Not looking for a debate on what kind of place to go to pick people up, I'm just asking if anyone knows of singles mixers or is interested in one. I dont think everyone is looking to just hook up, that would be a bit stupid of an assumption.
Plenty of people are already taken or just there to have a good time, and separating those people out from the rest is the point of a mixer. Your advice is myopic and off topic.

You may be trying to be helpful but trust me its not at all applicable. And you cannot have a real conversation with someone in Goodbar; the place is super packed and loud. Before 9pm is not a good time to meet people in the demographic at a lot of bars. The whole point of a mixer is that it takes the 2 most basic questions out of meeting people that you have to go through if you're in a bar scene:. Again, if you're in the right place you'll meet people - just about any bar downtown Friday after work, loaded with young professionals.
Do these mixers do background checks or something? Not adverse to the idea, you should set one up! The beauty of a good mixer is that it caters to the clientele. If the participants want a more structured event, you can do pairing based on personality questionnaires, or for a more numbers based approach you can do speed dating.
I've seen everything from a group board night to a Sunday brunch where you went with a friend and double dated.
Once I know if there is interest, I'll make a more formal approach to collect data for an initial trial run. I think the big difference in Buffalo is that people are generally very friendly and you can go to a bar and meet great people to not only hook up with but also spark a relationship with. Especially people in their 20s and 30s. All you have to do is leave the house and smile and say hi to meet your new best friend.
That's been my experience.

Perhaps at a more advanced age, something like this may appeal to busy professionals, but what do I know Ive been married to the guy I picked up in a bar for the last 17 years. Not everyone wants to hang out in a crowded bar. It's rather naive to think that "all you have to do to meet your new best friend is leave the house and smile" will work for everyone when dating. That's just not how it works for everyone, we all have different styles and preferences. As I said before, dating mixers are not a replacement to the bar scene. They are an alternative for those who don't want to have to sort through the crowd wondering who is available and looking, people who don't drink, people who work during regular bar hours, shy people, etc.
There is a speed dating event coming up http: Different strokes for different folks. I find the bar scene to be an unappealing setting for approaching dating. Oh I have no doubt about that either. Then again I guess this explains why I am single, crippling social anxiety.

People who aren't looking for that can't derail the post if there are interested people interspersed with them naysaying though frankly it is a bit baffling how stuck a vocal minority of people are on the bar scene approach here I have attended plenty of meet ups in the year old range in other cities; there's no reason that Buffalo can't support a small group of the same type of thing.
You could be talking to someone all night unknowingly. I did it for four months. Actually was way better than drinking regularly. After 9p, not so Great. Before 9p, you can have a conversation.
